From July 13 to 20, 2025, the Faculty of Law, University of Białystok hosted Dr. Kimberly Przeszlowski from Quinnipiac University (Connecticut, United States).
The visit of the American researcher was focused on exchanging experience and knowledge on the modern technologies used by the police in combating crime. Dr. Kimberly Przeszlowski is an Assistant Professor at Quinnipiac University, where she conducts research on the role of surveillance in crime detection and prevention. Previously, she worked for several years as a criminologist at the Miami Police Department.
During her stay in Białystok, Dr. Przeszlowski participated in many interesting and valuable meetings, allowing her to share American perspective on modern technologies used by the police. She spoke with prof. Wojciech Filipkowski about the challenges that the Polish police currently faces in the context of virtual threats. They also discussed methods of teaching criminology.
Dr. Przeszlowski's visit was also aimed at establishing closer cooperation between our Faculty and Quinnipiac University, both in research and teaching. Therefore, she met with prof. Tomasz Dubowski, the Vice Dean for Didactics, prof. Izabela Kraśnicka from the Department of Public International Law and Joanna Quigley, M.A. - Erasmus+ Coordinator at the Faculty of Law.
Dr. Przeszlowski also held a series of meetings with representatives of the uniformed services in Białystok. She attended a meeting at the Białystok Municipal Police Headquarters, where she had the opportunity to learn about the duties of police officers in this unit. Moreover, thanks to the kindness of the Białystok City Guard, she was able to take a closer look at the Video Surveillance Center, its role in ensuring city safety, and crime detection methods.
The researcher also visited the Forensic Laboratory of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Białystok, where she learned about the experts' work in each laboratory. She paid particular attention to the anthroposcopic laboratory, which determines the identity of individuals based on images captured on camera recordings.
During her visit in Białystok, Dr. Przeszlowski also attended a meeting at the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime. She learned about the cyber threats and shared her experience in this area of expertise. She also spoke with Dr. Kamil Goryń, a researcher at the University of Białystok and an expert in the impact of technological development on national security.
In her free time, she had the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of our region by visiting Białystok and other towns in the Podlasie region, especially Supraśl.
